Position Summary

The Associate in Manufacturing Engineering will serve as a key liaison for the afternoon shift production team, concentrating on quality assurance and reliability within the manufacturing cell. This role is vital for the daily operational success of the production team, utilizing root cause analysis techniques to swiftly and thoroughly address production challenges. The ideal candidate will emphasize the verification and alignment of optical subassemblies or systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a primary resource for the Manufacturing team in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electro-optical manufacturing challenges.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation to support manufacturing modifications, including assembly and testing protocols, Work Instructions, and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) documentation.
  • Oversee operational procedures related to Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), including thermal and vibrational assessments.
  • Participate in daily production meetings, providing updates and responses as needed.
  • Engage in daily Material Review Board (MRB) meetings, assisting in the resolution of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and the management of non-conforming materials.
  • Ensure the maintenance of manufacturing processes and protocols for WESCAM products.
  • Review engineering and production change requests for their impact on processes, product flow, quality, and documentation, implementing necessary changes.
  • Facilitate the translation of product specifications from engineering to manufacturing protocols.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Assist with other operational priorities as directed by Operations Engineering leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Systems, Electro-Mechanical, Electro-Optical, Manufacturing, and Process Engineering.
  • Proficient technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and resolving manufacturing issues in real-time.
  • Highly organized, goal-oriented, and detail-focused.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with AS9100 standards is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with Matlab is a plus but not required.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A well-rounded background in electrical, mechanical, or optical engineering with experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • A university degree or a 3-year college diploma in Engineering Physics, Physics, Aerospace, Mechatronics, Electrical, Optics, or Manufacturing Engineering, along with relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in a manufacturing engineering role.
  • Green Belt Certification or equivalent industry experience in lean practices is beneficial but not essential.
