Oncology Support Therapy Assistant

Your Opportunity:
Join the dynamic team at Alberta Health Services as we enhance our Rehabilitation Oncology services. We are looking for dedicated Therapy Assistants who are committed to providing exceptional care in a supportive environment. In this role, you will primarily assist with outpatient rehabilitation services and support various inpatient units. Your contributions will be vital in areas such as the Intensive Palliative Care Unit, Medical Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant Units.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Therapy Assistant, your duties will include:
- Implementing therapeutic programs and treatment strategies as directed by licensed therapists.
- Assisting with patient care related to lymphedema management, mobility, and adaptive aids.
- Monitoring and documenting changes in patients' conditions and reporting to the healthcare team.
- Managing equipment and supplies, including inventory oversight and repairs.
- Engaging in patient education and supporting activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Leading and supervising volunteers and students in various capacities.
- Participating in professional development opportunities within oncology.
Role Overview:
In your capacity as a Therapy Assistant, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including audiologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and speech-language pathologists. Your role will encompass both direct and indirect patient care across a spectrum of health services, catering to individuals of all ages. You will be expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism and ethical practice while contributing to a patient-centered approach.
Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a diploma from an accredited rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of four years of clinical experience in providing therapy assistant support in an acute care environment is preferred, along with at least three years of experience in oncology settings. Familiarity with compression therapy, adaptive aids, and group facilitation (both in-person and virtual) is highly desirable.
