About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Kitchen Helper to join our team at Birsay Kitchen. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our food service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Clean and sanitize items such as dishwasher mats, carts, and waste disposal units to maintain a high level of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen.
  • Food Preparation: Place dishes in storage areas, sanitize and wash dishes and other items by hand, and receive, unpack, and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards, and other storage areas.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Clean and sanitize the kitchen, including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances, and equipment, to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our staff and customers.
  • Waste Management: Remove kitchen garbage and trash, and sweep, mop, wash, and polish floors to maintain a clean and tidy kitchen.
  • Food Handling: Wash, peel, and cut vegetables and fruit to prepare them for cooking and serving.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Work Environment: Fast-paced environment with a high level of activity and noise.
  • Physical Demands: Physically demanding role requiring standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods.
  • Repetitive Tasks: Repetitive tasks and activities, including cleaning and food preparation.
Personal Qualities and Experience
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Training and Development: Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities and challenges.
  • Language and Communication: Fluency in English and excellent communication skills.
