Role Overview:
The GBM 1st Line Global Governance & Controls Program Management function plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with AML/ATF and Sanctions regulations. This position collaborates with various stakeholders within GBM and the broader bank to effectively design and implement compliance programs globally, ensuring that business strategies and initiatives align with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a customer-centric culture to enhance client relationships and leverage the broader resources of the Bank.
  • Implement and uphold AML/ATF compliance controls, providing expertise and support to the business units forming the first line of defense.
  • Assist the Director in identifying process gaps and opportunities for improvement, leading initiatives to streamline and automate compliance processes.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of existing and forthcoming regulations impacting Global Banking and Markets.
  • Formulate and execute phased action plans to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Support the Director in crafting implementation strategies and monitoring progress related to GBM's Internal Control program.
  • Contribute to a positive risk culture, ensuring daily operations align with the Bank's risk appetite and policies.
  • Provide insights into policies and procedures for new products/services, recommending effective controls for AML risk mitigation.
  • Lead GBM regulatory projects and facilitate exam coordination.
  • Oversee initiatives related to GBM AML and Global Governance & Controls Program Management.
  • Maintain the Enterprise Product List and AML/ATF Product Risk Rating for the GBM business.
  • Collaborate with name screening solutions teams to enhance GBM's name screening controls.
  • Conduct focused data analytics and other assigned projects to support the GBM Global Governance & Controls Program Management.
  • Understand the implications of the Bank's risk appetite in daily decision-making.
  • Strive for operational efficiency in alignment with Scotiabank's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Foster a high-performance environment while promoting inclusivity.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of AML requirements across multiple jurisdictions, including Canada, the U.S., Singapore, Hong Kong, and the U.K.
  • Strong grasp of operational processes and technology to enhance the AML program.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with tight deadlines and complex problem-solving.
  • Minimum of 8 years in financial services.
  • University degree in business, finance, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • CAMS or Certified Financial Crime Specialist designations are advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate and correspondent banking, as well as capital markets products.
  • Experience in compliance programs with a focus on AML.
  • Familiarity with data flows in back office or middle office roles within capital markets.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint, with experience in creating executive-level presentations.
  • Knowledge of Tableau/PowerBI is preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in data and financial analysis is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage multiple compliance reviews concurrently.
  • Familiarity with GBM products and related AML/ATF functions.

Work Arrangement:
This position operates in a hybrid model, requiring in-office work at least three days a week, subject to business needs.
