Surface Mining Operations Manager

Job OverviewThe successful candidate will report to the Superintendent, Surface Mining, and work a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off rotation at the Ekati Mine site. The role will ensure safe and efficient production of the surface mining operations.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and mentor team members to achieve high levels of performance and safety;
- Assign work and supervise the performance of personnel working on the Surface Mining team;
- Implement effective safety, health, and environment management practices to support the concept of Zero Harm;
- Investigate all accidents and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions;
- Meet budgeted mining targets through effective planning and execution;
- Collaborate with Technical Services and Mobile Maintenance to execute the mining plan and maintenance schedule;
- Manage departmental costs through continuous improvement and engage in departmental improvement projects;
- Ensure company policies and standard operating procedures are followed;
- Work with and thoroughly understand the WENCO fleet monitoring and data collection system;
- Contribute to the development of the mining plan.
- Minimum 5 years of open pit mining experience;
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience;
- Open pit shift boss certification;
- Surface mine rescue certification;
- Valid first-aid ticket;
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships in a unionized environment;
- Ability to coach and mentor team members to achieve high levels of performance and safety.
