We are seeking a highly skilled Permitting and Environmental Manager to join our team at EDF Renewables North America. As a key member of our development team, you will provide strategic leadership and expertise in environmental risk assessment and mitigation for our renewable energy projects.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement permitting strategies for greenfield development projects, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
- Advise and lead the development team in negotiating or amending new provincial or municipal environmental regulations, zoning, and bylaws that impact renewable energy development.
- Represent EDF Renewables before key local, provincial, and federal regulatory bodies, including environmental and energy siting or planning boards.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of environmental policy, regulation, and compliance that affect permitting and project siting and compliance.
- Support project Final Investment Decisions by creating robust environmental and permitting risk evaluation documentation for senior management.
- Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans to ensure compliance with received Environmental Approvals related to project development, construction, and operations.
- Work with advisors and consultants to apply for and manage federal, provincial, and local environmental, construction, and related permits.
- Develop a robust regional network of environmental consulting firms and contractors for environmental studies and permit-related work.
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental studies, planning, environmental engineering, biology, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of experience in the environmental field and/or project development related to renewable projects.
- Expertise with federal, provincial, and local permitting requirements and obtaining regulatory approvals.
- Experience in collaborating with multiple sectors of a project team and managing environmental contractors.
- Ability to read, interpret, and communicate the impact of current and upcoming environmental guidelines, land use maps, and other constraints on potential and existing opportunities.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships within and outside the organization.
