Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with client families or legal representatives to design services that align with their memorialization expectations.
  • Present all available merchandise and service options to client families.
  • Gather necessary information to complete essential documents such as obituaries, death certificates, and burial permits.
  • Coordinate service arrangements with clergy, military organizations, and other participants involved in the funeral service.
  • Utilize systems to document merchandise selections, enter contracts, and finalize required forms.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct visitations and services.
  • Supervise all staff involved in services, ensuring clarity of roles and professional representation.
  • Prepare the deceased, including dressing and casketing.
  • Set up visitation areas according to client family preferences, including lighting and floral arrangements.
  • Guide families and attendees during the funeral service.
  • Oversee transportation logistics for client families to ensure timely departures and arrivals.
  • Manage the shipping of remains to and from various locations.
  • Instruct and mentor Apprentice Funeral Directors on service execution and documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Active Funeral Director's license in good standing.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Office and funeral service software.
  • Background check required for successful candidates.

Additional Qualifications

  • Fluency in English; bilingual skills are advantageous.
  • High level of computer proficiency.
  • Ability to effectively present information to families, colleagues, and leadership.
  • Willingness to engage in community-based organizations to enhance market presence.
  • Empathy and patience in emotionally charged situations.

Supervisory Duties

This role may involve supervising Funeral Directors in training.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Duties are primarily conducted in an indoor office environment, with some responsibilities outdoors.
  • Outdoor tasks may involve exposure to various weather conditions and natural elements.
  • Equipment used includes computers, multi-line phone systems, and casket handling devices.
  • Employees must possess sufficient strength and dexterity to perform job functions safely.
  • Regular lifting of up to 75 pounds is required, with occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.
  • This position may involve exposure to chemicals and blood borne pathogens.
  • Employees must be able to operate a company vehicle and maintain a good driving record.
  • Overtime may be necessary at times.

Travel Requirements

  • This position may involve up to 10 percent travel, primarily local during business hours.
