Engineering Manager, Infrastructure Development

About the RoleThe Engineering Manager, Performance, is responsible for leading a team of professional engineers and coordinators in the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects. This includes roads, sidewalks, storm sewers, bridges, culverts, and streetlights. The successful candidate will have a strong background in infrastructure design, project management, and a thorough understanding of environmental assessment processes, federal and provincial standards, and municipal by-laws.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of professional engineers and coordinators in the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects.
- Develop and implement best practice approaches to infrastructure renewal and growth-related projects.
- Manage a portfolio of ongoing projects dealing with different asset types and varying scope and dollar value.
- Collaborate with other levels of government, private developers, and internal stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Provide input on infrastructure needs to support business planning for the Planning and Infrastructure Department.
- Approve engineering designs developed by internal staff, ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial, or federal design criteria, regulations, and standard drawings.
- Represent the Municipality of Clarington at meetings, provide comments on proposed projects, and submit applications for funding programs.
- Degree or diploma in civil engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) from Professional Engineers Ontario or a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience at a management or supervisory level in municipal engineering and project management.
- Strong effective report writing and project management skills, with the ability to achieve program objectives while working towards tight deadlines.
- Ability to manage a portfolio of ongoing projects dealing with different asset types and varying scope and dollar value.
- Strong background in infrastructure design, project management, and a thorough understanding of environmental assessment processes, federal and provincial standards, and municipal by-laws.
