Research Assistant

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Academic Assistant to support a research project in the School of Social Work. The successful candidate will work closely with the research team to investigate the complex interactions between ecological systems, culture, behavior, cognitive-information processing styles, and psychological temperament in individuals who engage in violent behavior.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct comprehensive literature searches and analyze findings to identify themes and linkages among variables
- Work with the research team to determine which literature is used by the project and conduct research-related tasks such as identifying and summarizing findings from articles, documents, and web information
- Collect and analyze data, including data management and analysis
- Prepare and present research findings for review by team members
- Collaborate with the team leader and other research assistants to improve research activities and make revisions as necessary in work plans and products
- Write research reports and participate in writing articles for publication
- Undergraduate degree in social work, psychology, or a related social science
- Current enrollment in the MSW program at UBCO
- Strong reading, comprehension, and writing skills
- Ability to work on a collaborative, interdisciplinary team
- Willingness to remain with the project until October or November 2024
The ideal candidate will have experience conducting literature searches, writing literature reviews, and working with databases and spreadsheets. Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative analysis software is an asset. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will have excellent communication and organizational skills.
