Job Overview

The IT Quality Assurance Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and excellence of our technology solutions at CNA. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities aligned with departmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes significantly to the development and execution of the IT Quality Assurance strategy across various domains.
  • Participates in the formulation and implementation of the Test Center of Excellence (TCOE) Tooling & Practices Roadmap, which includes both functional and non-functional test automation frameworks, application lifecycle management, test data oversight, environment setup, defect tracking, and quality metrics. Remains updated on emerging technologies and practices in Quality Engineering.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to promote adherence to Quality Engineering best practices, policies, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Engages with vendor partners to ensure the reliability and efficiency of CNA's technology operations and customer support.
  • Advocates for the increased adoption of Automated Testing, Test Data Management, and integrated testing methodologies that support Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Acts as a champion for SAFe Agile methodologies, ensuring that testing teams are effectively integrated within agile scrum teams, utilizing appropriate quality engineering principles and tools.
  • Provides strategic input to IT Leadership, advising on best practices and offering solutions to complex challenges during project execution. Leads projects that require substantial resources and navigates complex situations with minimal guidance.
  • Ensures compliance with CNA's processes and controls related to IT Quality Assurance through diligent monitoring and reporting. Drives improvements by analyzing trends and outcomes based on key performance metrics.
  • Oversees staffing and budgeting for Quality Engineering Services.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Possesses expertise in software quality practices, testing standards, integrated tooling, and quality analytics.
  • Hands-on experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter and familiarity with testing strategies is advantageous.
  • Demonstrates solid technical knowledge across various test automation disciplines, including API, Web, and Data testing.
  • Experience in metrics-driven quality governance and promoting a culture of 'Shift Left' and 'Automate First'.
  • Knowledgeable about technologies supporting integrated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with business and IT leadership to define objectives and metrics.
  • Experience in developing cross-team roadmaps and facilitating planning and execution.
  • Acts as a thought leader in innovative problem-solving within Quality Engineering.
  • Exhibits strong project management skills and the ability to organize effectively in an Agile environment.
  • Engages proactively with other leaders to ensure the necessary expertise is available for testing initiatives.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism and achieving quality outcomes.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Typically requires 5+ years in a leadership role within Quality Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in Information Technology, including applications development or Quality Engineering.
  • Experience managing IT vendor relationships is essential.
  • Extensive knowledge of testing frameworks supporting various testing types in a dev/ops culture.
  • Experience in Agile, Scrum, or SAFe methodologies is crucial.
  • Experience in Commercial Lines is beneficial.
  • Certifications in IT Quality Assurance and Guidewire are a plus.
