Position Overview:
As a CNC Early Childhood Educator, you will play a vital role in nurturing and supporting newcomer children in a group environment. Collaborating with fellow team members, you will design, supervise, and execute engaging daily programs tailored to the needs of the children and their families. Your responsibilities will include fostering a welcoming atmosphere that encourages cultural exchange and linguistic growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the implementation of child-centered care practices for newcomer children, ensuring age-appropriate programming that promotes their social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Adhere to all guidelines and policies established by funding bodies and the organization.
  • Identify and address any challenges that may arise during program delivery.
  • In collaboration with the Manager of English Language Services, plan and facilitate activities that align with the program's philosophy.
  • Establish appropriate boundaries based on each child's developmental stage, providing individualized support and encouragement.
  • Handle administrative duties, including maintaining records such as registration, attendance, and child information forms.
  • Ensure the safety, health, and hygiene of children within the CNC environment, conducting regular safety inspections.
  • Conduct orientations for parents and staff, maintaining open communication regarding any concerns related to the children.
  • Assess and manage equipment needs, ensuring adequate resources are available for program operations.
  • Report any signs of abuse or neglect to the Program Manager.
  • Supervise volunteers and placement students as needed.
  • Engage in regular supervisory meetings with the Program Manager.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development as directed by WoodGreen.
  • Promote anti-racism and community development principles within the program.
  • Represent the unit on internal committees as assigned.
  • Perform additional related duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of a two-year Early Childhood Education diploma from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the childcare sector.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current first aid and CPR certification.
  • Active membership in relevant professional organizations.
  • Up-to-date health assessment, including immunization records.
  • Current criminal background check.
  • Strong administrative and leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to address the unique challenges faced by newcomer children.
  • Experience collaborating with professionals from various fields.
  • Understanding of settlement issues and the specific needs of newcomer families.
  • Knowledge of child-centered programming principles.
  • Familiarity with research and practices relevant to young children, particularly for immigrant and refugee populations.
  • Willingness to work in environments that may involve exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Physical capability to lift children and move moderately heavy items.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and professional judgment.
