Position Summary

In the role of Mechanic, you will leverage your technical expertise to play a pivotal part in maintaining high standards of product knowledge and quality within the branch. As a Mechanic B, you will be well-versed in the standard operating procedures at various levels and will mentor junior mechanics. Your primary responsibility will be to apply your mechanical skills to ensure the fleet maintenance operations are executed effectively, keeping the equipment ready for rental.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consistently perform preventative maintenance on all company-owned fleet equipment at your branch.
  • Operate and test machinery to confirm compliance with Herc Rentals' quality and efficiency benchmarks.
  • Install snowplow equipment as required.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on all fleet vehicles and equipment with minimal oversight.
  • Diagnose issues in internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
  • Execute major repairs on fleet equipment using diagnostic tools and hand tools independently.
  • Carry out oil changes, lubrication, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements, and other essential services.
  • Utilize warranty repair timeframes to manage parts and labor documentation accurately.
  • Enter work orders and manage parts ordering through the fleet management system.
  • Recondition and replace various components of heavy machinery.
  • Identify significant wear or damage on equipment and address accordingly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Generate detailed service reports and repair logs in a timely manner.
  • Assist in training junior mechanics while following guidance from the shop lead.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to interpret detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels.
  • Possession of a comprehensive set of hand and air/electric tools necessary for repairs and services.
  • Capability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, and generators.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Proficient in operating various types of vehicles and equipment.
  • Strong follow-up skills for customer interactions.
  • Safe handling of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely.
  • Attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Solid written and verbal communication abilities, including basic computer operations.
  • Understanding of time management principles.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all branch employees.
  • Dependability and reliability in job performance.
Compensation

The hourly wage for this position ranges from $31 to $35.
