Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled Diabetes Nurse Educator to join our team at Island Health. The successful candidate will possess a recognized nursing degree and current Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant is also required.

A minimum of three years' recent related experience, including experience in the care of diabetes and group teaching, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, is necessary. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working with Indigenous peoples and communities, with a demonstrated understanding of Indigenous health approaches, protocols, and cultural issues.

The successful candidate will also possess knowledge of adult education learning principles and be able to apply the principles of adult learning in individual and group settings. Additionally, they will be able to assess learning needs of Indigenous people throughout the lifecycle and deliver culturally sensitive services to the Indigenous populations of Southern Vancouver Island.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate patient care.
  • Assess learning needs of Indigenous people and develop culturally sensitive education programs.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care.
  • Adapt to changing program requirements and priorities.

The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. A valid BC Driver's License is also required.
