The Opportunity: Family Support Specialist - Hotel Overflow Program

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Family Support Specialist to join our team at the Good Shepherd - Family Centre - Hotel Overflow program. This role is crucial in providing on-site support to families residing in emergency shelter overflow spaces.

Your Impact:

  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for families, fostering a focus on rapid rehousing.
  • Provide multifaceted support to children and their families, encompassing supportive counseling, information sharing, and skill development guidance.
  • Assist families in navigating community resources and government services, ensuring access to necessary support.
  • Collaborate closely with families to develop personalized Family Support Plans, addressing specific goals and needs identified by the family.
  • Act as a liaison between families, community agencies, and other professionals, advocating for families based on their expressed preferences and requirements.

What You Bring:

  • Post-secondary education in social services or a related field is required.
  • Experience in a residential or emergency shelter setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and Housing First Principles.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating individual and group programming.
  • Strong crisis management skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills, combined with the ability to work collaboratively, negotiate effectively, and facilitate teamwork with a variety of professionals.
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset.
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required.
  • Valid G license required.
  • Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, and flexibility.
