The Opportunity: Family Support Specialist - Hotel Overflow Program
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Family Support Specialist to join our team at the Good Shepherd - Family Centre - Hotel Overflow program. This role is crucial in providing on-site support to families residing in emergency shelter overflow spaces.
Your Impact:
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for families, fostering a focus on rapid rehousing.
- Provide multifaceted support to children and their families, encompassing supportive counseling, information sharing, and skill development guidance.
- Assist families in navigating community resources and government services, ensuring access to necessary support.
- Collaborate closely with families to develop personalized Family Support Plans, addressing specific goals and needs identified by the family.
- Act as a liaison between families, community agencies, and other professionals, advocating for families based on their expressed preferences and requirements.
What You Bring:
- Post-secondary education in social services or a related field is required.
- Experience in a residential or emergency shelter setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and Housing First Principles.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating individual and group programming.
- Strong crisis management skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
- Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills, combined with the ability to work collaboratively, negotiate effectively, and facilitate teamwork with a variety of professionals.
- Fluency in a second language is an asset.
- CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required.
- Valid G license required.
- Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, and flexibility.
