About the Position

Canadian Blood Services is in search of a Regular Full-Time Lead Technologist, Blood Services to join our dynamic Testing team.

The Testing team plays a crucial role in supporting Canadian Blood Services by conducting routine examinations and other pertinent laboratory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee laboratory workflows to fulfill customer requirements and assess operational efficiency through key performance indicators and other metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate quality standards in laboratory settings; supervise technical and support personnel assigned to the testing laboratory.
  • Maintain up-to-date theoretical knowledge of medical laboratory science and methodologies through advanced education, current literature, and participation in conferences.
  • Assist in managing the testing facility and equipment to guarantee sufficient space for current and future testing demands; ensure equipment meets testing specifications and regulatory standards; uphold environmental requirements; and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives, special projects, and conduct regular operational reviews.
  • Execute Technical Supervisor duties primarily in the technical domains of Sample Receiving, National Immunohematology Reference Lab serology testing, Provincial reference testing, and Consultation with Medical.
  • Support operations in handling Complex red cell serology cases, Transfusion special cases, and External reference laboratory send-outs.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Registered/certified Medical Laboratory Technologist with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • Bachelor’s degree, ART or SBB, with two to five years of Red Cell Serology experience, including at least six months of supervisory experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant laboratory experience in key accountability areas, including at least three years of supervisory/managerial experience and management training, preferably in a unionized setting.
  • Experience in training, scheduling, evaluating personnel, and developing, writing, and implementing work instructions.
  • Previous GMP experience or extensive knowledge of comparable quality management systems.

Work Environment

  • Shift/hours - Monday to Friday, during business hours. Occasional off-hours work may be necessary.
  • Physical requirements - ability to lift weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs).
