Position Overview

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Specialist in Cord Blood to enhance our Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services division. This role is integral to our mission of improving patient outcomes through stem cell transplants for various medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with Cord Blood Bank staff, fostering an environment focused on continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct thorough maternal interviews and evaluate responses to determine donor eligibility for cord blood donation, ensuring informed consent and comprehensive medical history assessments.
  • Perform phlebotomy to collect maternal blood samples and execute ex-utero umbilical cord blood collection as necessary.
  • Provide mentorship and training to the cord blood bank team and hospital personnel, leveraging your leadership capabilities.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program, along with three to six years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must hold a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province of employment.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and experience in instructional design or facilitation is advantageous.
  • Preferred experience in Obstetrical Nursing and/or Labour and Delivery.
  • Mandatory venepuncture experience and the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

Work Environment

  • Shifts are scheduled Monday to Friday, with varying hours, including statutory holidays.
