US Tax Director

We are seeking a highly skilled US Tax Director to join our Global Tax Advisory team at Manulife. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert tax advice and guidance on US federal, international, and state tax matters related to corporate tax planning projects, including mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions.
Key Responsibilities- US Tax Planning: Prepare analyses on the US tax consequences of projects for our business units, and analyze and report on US federal and state tax authority, including the global impact.
- Tax Due Diligence: Prepare and assist in tax due diligence of acquisitions/dispositions, including modeling.
- Tax Research: Conduct US tax research on tools such as CCH, RIA, and Bloomberg.
- Tax Compliance: Interface with our US Tax Controller's area for tax provision and tax return compliance.
- Tax Policy: Coordinate with Accounting Policy and Controllers on the tax consequences of IFRS and NAIC matters.
- Tax Treaties: Review tax treaties for the cross-border implications of proposals.
- Reporting: Prepare monthly reports on new tax authority.
- Communication: Interact with Tax Controller's area to ensure tax consequences of transactions are properly recorded and reported.
- Collaboration: Interact with Treasury and other corporate areas on worldwide tax policies and transactions.
- Quarterly Reporting: Prepare quarterly write-ups on potential Uncertain Tax Positions.
- Project Management: Maintain the Mergers & Acquisitions Project Sharepoint site and coordinate a monthly Status Update Report for ongoing projects.
- 6 years or more of US tax experience, including corporate tax planning with a multinational organization, public accounting firm, or law firm.
- CPA or other professional tax designation.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Financial Services experience preferred.
