Position OverviewAs an Addictions Counsellor with the Ministry of the Solicitor General, you will play a crucial role in addressing addiction issues within a correctional facility. This position offers the opportunity to engage with a diverse clientele and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide impactful services.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the formulation of addiction counseling initiatives.
- Contribute to an inter-professional committee dedicated to addiction issues and the reintegration of offenders.
- Deliver rehabilitative counseling services to individuals or groups of offenders.
- Engage in case conferences, treatment planning sessions, and discharge planning discussions to coordinate offender treatment.
- Collaborate with community organizations, self-help groups, and educational institutions.
- Facilitate recognized addiction assessments.
- Familiarity with contemporary addiction counseling theories, practices, and techniques.
- Understanding of risk assessment tools and rehabilitation theories.
- Knowledge of community resources to arrange appropriate support for offenders.
- Awareness of the various sectors involved in the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals post-release.
- Ability to evaluate offender needs and recommend suitable program placements.
- Capability to apply relevant legislation and adhere to organizational policies.
- Strong reasoning skills to assess treatment readiness and motivation.
- Proficient in resolving issues related to offender participation.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage workload effectively.
- Ability to establish rapport with a diverse population with varying backgrounds and needs.
- Experience in providing both individual and group counseling.
- Effective communication with correctional staff and external agency representatives.
- Strong written communication skills for report preparation.
- Ability to handle inquiries with tact and diplomacy.
- Proficient in various software applications and database systems for data management and reporting.
This position requires a Vulnerable Sector Check, Credit History Check, and Local Police Databases Search.
