About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bilingual Claims Adjudicator to join our team at Société Financière Manuvie. As a key member of our financial services team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service and ensuring that claims are processed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service: Establish and maintain superior customer service to policyholders, agents, and marketing centers.
  • Claims Management: Manage ongoing claims by requesting further medical, or investigations as required and consult with specialists in all areas.
  • Policy Review: Review claims and underwriting files for proper disclosure of past medical history, exclusions, riders, and endorsements; administer policy enhancements, premium waiver, and other policy benefits.
  • Documentation: Document the claim file to ensure an accurate record of events that transpire in the claim handling.
  • File Maintenance: Obtain proper file information and review with policy provisions to verify eligibility.
  • Record Keeping: Accurately maintain claim records on the system to ensure the accuracy of reserve calculations.
Requirements
  • Bilingualism: Bilingual (French & English) is required - The successful candidate will be required to communicate in English and French in order to support clients from various jurisdictions outside of Quebec.
  • Education: A university degree in any discipline or equivalent work experience is an asset.
  • Experience: 2-3+ years' experience in adjudicating claims, preferably disability and critical illness.
  • Customer Service Skills: Customer service-oriented individual with negotiating skills is essential.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with good oral and written communication skills for use in dealing with internal and external customers, claimants, brokers, physicians, employees, hospitals, investigators and lawyers.
  • Medical Knowledge: Must have a good working knowledge of medical conditions and terminology, as well as experience in the interpretation and application of financial documentation and fair claims practices.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to respond constructively and decisively in high-pressure or emotional situations and to respond positively to change.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Working knowledge of government legislation and legal precedents, the Insurance Act and/or Quebec Civil Code is an asset.
  • Underwriting Knowledge: Good working knowledge of the underwriting process.
  • Analytical Skills: Good analytical skills to evaluate conflicting information from various key sources to assess risk in making timely and effective decisions.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Proven ability to make decisions and handle pressure.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Additional Language Skills: Ability to communicate in Cantonese and Mandarin is an asset.
