Lead Cost Estimator

Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive evaluations of contract documents, including isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings, along with specifications for significant hard-bid/lump sum, construction management, and medium-sized design-build projects to ascertain overall project necessities (bonding, insurance, etc.).
Develops a critical path schedule that includes milestone dates and completion timelines to ensure adherence to contract completion dates for large-scale projects.
Executes a thorough quantity take-off of all labor, equipment, and materials for extensive scopes.
Oversees the pricing of general expenses and project-specific requirements for medium to large projects (lump sum and construction management).
Collaborates with the operations team to finalize as-bid estimates and trade buy-out strategies.
Aids in the presentation of estimates/proposals and prepares engaging client presentations.
Conducts quantity, material, and labor take-offs from drawings, specifications, and related documents.
Records all information pertinent to the estimate and organizes it for transfer to the project team upon successful contract award.
Performs risk and opportunity assessments for review by the chief estimator to incorporate into the risk register.
Engages with external consultants and project management organizations to estimate project budget requirements and coordinates the tender development process on behalf of clients.
Monitors project-specific success criteria; possesses a deep understanding of owners' business, requirements, revenue generation, and provides tailored solutions.
Holds the team accountable and encourages innovative solutions for the overall benefit of the project.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent trade experience.
- Gold Seal certification in estimating is mandatory (CDN).
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, with at least 12 months of on-site experience preferred.
- Proven track record of leading pursuits valued up to $250 million in various delivery models including hard bid/lump sum, construction management/cost reimbursable/target price, and/or design-build.
- Familiarity with self-perform estimating and productivity comprehension.
- In-depth knowledge of diverse construction methods, planning, scheduling, sequencing, potential challenges, and timelines, and recognized as a district expert in these areas.
- Extensive understanding of key principles in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing, and bid closing processes.
- Proficient in understanding and conveying contract terms for various delivery models, with the ability to identify contract risks and opportunities.
- Well-versed in different bid processes and contract delivery methods: Hard bid/lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices, and construction management/cost reimbursable.
- Capable of leading successful teams.
- Resourceful and self-driven with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Exceptional ability to cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with owners, peers, and industry representatives, leveraging these relationships for a competitive edge.
