Aerospace Repair Solutions Engineer

The Aerospace Repair Solutions Engineer will be responsible for designing and executing repair strategies for both Aero and industrial gas turbine engines. We are looking for candidates with a background in repair engineering, particularly in geared turbofan aircraft engines and industrial gas turbine systems. The ideal candidate will possess the technical knowledge, project management capabilities, and innovative mindset necessary to provide safe, efficient, and cost-effective repair solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and comprehend critical components and processes related to flight and product safety.
  • Promptly report any safety concerns regarding flight or product integrity.
  • Engage in proactive risk assessments of critical flight and product safety components and processes.
  • Understand and adhere to the Just Culture policy.
  • Participate in all stages of the repair product and process development.

Repair Development and Execution:

  • Determine and manage the necessary actions and resources to develop or implement repairs based on engineering specifications or OEM overhaul guidelines.
  • Provide analytical support, evaluations, and calculations for repair development planning, including cost-benefit analyses and performance evaluations.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of repair trials to gather data for new repairs or support existing ones, documenting the outcomes of these trials.
  • Identify tooling and fixture requirements for repairs and submit design requests accordingly.
  • Assist in creating matrix routings to streamline the flow of parts throughout the repair process.
  • Document procedures and work instructions for clarity and compliance.
  • Provide training related to processes for other support personnel.
  • Develop First Article Inspection plans in accordance with AS9102 standards.
  • Collaborate with the Production Engineering team to coordinate activities between Engineering and Operations during the implementation of new repairs and processes.
  • Research and perform cost-benefit analyses for potential new equipment acquisitions.
  • Offer technical training and mentorship in repair development and metallurgical analysis.

Process Control and Enhancement

  • Analyze, develop, and recommend methods to meet production goals, enhance quality, and reduce turnaround times for products and processes, supported by cost analyses.
  • Establish, analyze, and respond to performance metrics related to processes.
  • Investigate and initiate corrective actions for equipment and process deficiencies to minimize variation and enhance reliability.
  • Provide guidance for continuous improvement of component repair methods and capabilities.
  • Compile and analyze repair data to identify root causes and implement corrective measures; develop performance metrics for all repair processes.
  • Support Production Engineering in refining existing repair schemes to decrease reject rates.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and engage with external resources, including contractors and equipment vendors, for process support and repair development.
  • Provide technical expertise to the Design Approval Organization (DAO) to facilitate airworthiness engineering decisions.
  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and processes in the field.
  • Review and contribute to the development and revisions of OEM Inspection/Repair Manuals.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned.

Technical Qualifications

  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of aerospace materials and processes.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Registration may be required in jurisdictions governed by regulatory bodies or associations.
  • A university degree in materials, metallurgy, mechanical, aeronautical, or chemical engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in an aerospace or manufacturing engineering environment is preferred.
  • Proficient in using PCs within the company’s operating system environment.

Background Information

The typical minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of a university (bachelor's) program in a specialized field of study. The role necessitates a solid understanding of the theoretical principles and concepts related to the subject area, along with an awareness of how these relate to job responsibilities. This specialized training is often recognized by a degree and/or professional designation.

A minimum of three to six years of relevant work experience, demonstrating continuous learning, is essential for effective performance in this role.
