Your Impact

We are on the lookout for a seasoned Machine Learning Engineer to establish our foundational office in Vancouver and spearhead engineering initiatives within our Science team. In this capacity, you will work closely with our research team to create, integrate, test, and scale innovative algorithms, tools, and machine learning solutions tailored for autonomous driving. Your contributions will significantly enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our models, accelerating our iteration speed and bringing groundbreaking research concepts to fruition.

Key Responsibilities

You will tackle some of the most challenging problems in the industry, employing novel approaches. As a technical leader within our diverse, cross-disciplinary team, you will guide our robots in learning to drive safely and comfortably in complex real-world scenarios. This role encompasses various facets of engineering and optimization across perception, prediction, planning, and control, including:

  • Designing and implementing comprehensive neural networks and associated technologies for autonomous driving applications.
  • Collaborating closely with our research team to swiftly prototype and refine innovative machine learning models.
  • Optimizing models for performance and efficiency, ensuring effective operation in real-world autonomous driving contexts.
  • Developing and maintaining robust machine learning tools and infrastructure that expedite the research and development cycle.
  • Creating metrics and dashboards that provide insights into progress and direct focus towards solving critical challenges.
  • Continuously assessing emerging technologies and methodologies to foster innovation within the team.
  • Utilizing an analytical approach that integrates both qualitative and quantitative elements to deliver impactful results and insights.
  • Ensuring high-quality training data maintenance through advanced visualization and quantitative analysis techniques.
  • Effectively communicating data requirements within the team to optimize project success and collaboration.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to incorporate machine learning solutions into our autonomous driving platform.
  • Contributing to the development of a collaborative and innovative engineering culture.
Qualifications

Essential

  • 5+ years of industry experience in training and deploying large-scale models on distributed systems.
  • Strong foundation in machine learning and deep learning principles.
  • Experience leading a technical or research agenda aligned with broader organizational goals.
  • Proven track record of bringing research concepts through the complete ML development cycle into production.
  • Experience in a metrics and data-driven environment.
  • Ability to stay abreast of the latest advancements in model efficiency and apply innovative solutions to enhance existing models or develop new efficient architectures.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python, with experience in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Scikit-learn, TensorRT, or similar tools for model development.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, researchers, and product managers.

Desirable

  • Advanced knowledge of model compression, quantization, distillation, parallelism, and/or pruning techniques to reduce model size and enhance efficiency.
  • Understanding of hardware-specific optimizations for inference, such as optimizing models for GPUs, TPUs, or edge devices.
  • PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field.
