Position Overview

The Senior Treasury Risk Analyst plays a crucial role in the formulation, execution, and oversight of protocols and methodologies aimed at measuring and managing interest rate risk for Alterna Savings and Alterna Bank. This position provides essential financial analysis and decision-making support to the management team. Additionally, the Senior Treasury Risk Analyst is tasked with the creation, evaluation, and interpretation of balance sheet risk reports for the Asset Liability Committee(s) (ALCO), employing sophisticated computer simulation techniques to develop and assess risk management strategies, forecast interest margins, and monitor the impact of product and interest rate fluctuations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate and assess balance sheet risk reports utilizing simulation modeling techniques.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data utilized in the balance sheet risk management reporting systems for both Alterna Savings and Alterna Bank, sourced from internal and external channels.
  • Analyze and present balance sheet risk findings during ALCO meetings.
  • Develop, model, and implement strategies for effective balance sheet risk management.
  • Evaluate potential derivative transactions and their implications.
  • Oversee the successful execution of all derivative transactions in collaboration with custodians.
  • Analyze margin data to provide monthly assessments of earnings and margin.
  • Assist management in understanding and applying balance sheet analyses in their strategic decision-making processes.
  • Conduct statistical analyses to validate and support behavioral assumptions used in financial models.
  • Prepare comprehensive interest rate risk analysis reports.
  • Utilize historical balance sheet data to evaluate strategic interest margin initiatives and ongoing projects.
  • Ensure that interest margin information is readily available to support management in planning and decision-making, including the interpretation of such data.
  • Prepare compliance reports that align with various Risk Management policies.
  • Contribute to the development of stress testing exercises.
  • Collaborate with Senior Management to develop, analyze, and forecast the annual margin budget.
  • Update quarterly and annual budgeting and forecasting projections for Net Interest Margin (NIM).
  • Participate in the continuous enhancement of existing processes and procedures.
  • Prepare detailed Margin analysis and reporting.
  • Engage in the Annual Operating Plan process by assisting management in developing and analyzing the budgeted interest margin and subsequent variance analysis.
  • Provide scenario information for regulatory ICAAP processes related to Capital.
  • Participate in special cross-functional projects and other ad hoc initiatives as needed.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, accounting, finance, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Professional designation in accounting or finance, such as CFA or MBA, is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the financial sector, preferably within banking, with at least 2 years in Treasury interest risk management or a related analytical role with transferable skills into Asset Liability Management (ALM).

Knowledge / Skills

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in database analysis and management.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and analytical software tools.
  • Strong understanding of balance sheet modeling principles, accounting standards, and data management practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of capital markets, money markets, foreign exchange markets, and financial derivatives as they relate to balance sheet management. Familiarity with treasury operations, banking systems, and financial products and services technology.
  • Solid understanding of banking operations and financial theory.
  • Awareness of industry trends and best practices.
