Job Title: Environmental Advisor

At American Iron and Metal, we are seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor to join our team. As an Environmental Advisor, you will play a critical role in maintaining environmental compliance at our sites and ensuring that our operations are conducted in a responsible and sustainable manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide environmental advice and regulatory compliance support to production teams and operational management on various environmental issues and obligations.
  • Ensure that management and supervisors are aware of the site environmental regulatory requirements and procedures.
  • Conduct site visits and audits to ensure compliance with environmental requirements and procedures.
  • Develop and implement environmental plans, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a liaison with local, provincial, and federal regulatory groups and coordinate field inspections and communication.
  • Work with the Health and Safety team to prepare response plans and ensure comprehensive support in case of environmental emergencies.
  • Participate in environmental input in site EHS activities, such as safety meetings, tabletop exercises, emergency responses, incidents, and investigations.
  • Manage site-based environmental issues and monitoring, including third-party consultants when required.
  • Aid in the collection of environmental data, such as sound and air quality.
  • Prepare regulatory reporting activities, including Annual Reports and formal responses/notifications.
  • Ensure proper chemical, radiation, and hazardous material handling, disposal, and reporting.
  • Investigate and manage external complaints relating to environmental aspects and report findings to the Regional Manager.
  • Support buyers and commercial reps in answering environmental questions from clients or their auditors.
Qualifications:
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in environmental management or related fields.
  • A university degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Expertise in areas such as air quality, emissions, noise and vibration control, water management, and emergency response.
  • Experience working in industrial environments is highly valued.
  • ISO 14001 certification is a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within teams and solve complex problems.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deliver training sessions effectively.
  • Willingness to travel to various Ontario locations as required.
