The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is an essential member of the inter-professional healthcare team, employing the nursing process along with critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to deliver care to patients and their families throughout various stages of life. The LPN in the acute neuroscience/neurosurgery setting is dedicated to providing nursing care aimed at promoting, maintaining, or restoring health while preventing illness, injury, and disability. Collaboration with other nursing professionals, including Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Clinicians, Registered Nurses, and Health Care Aides, is vital. A strong commitment to teamwork and excellent inter-professional communication skills are required. The LPN plays a crucial role in coordinating care with a diverse range of disciplines, including physicians, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Social Workers, as part of a comprehensive multidisciplinary team. The environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, yet emotionally rewarding due to the complexity and acuity of the neuro patient population.
Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be an integral part of an interprofessional healthcare team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Your practice will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and organizational policies and procedures. You will have a significant role in delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while embodying the shared vision and values of Alberta Health Services.
Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited practical nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
Preferred Qualifications:One to two years of experience in an acute post-operative/surgical environment. Previous experience in neuroscience nursing. Experience in orienting new staff or mentoring students. Familiarity with EKG/cardiac monitoring. Experience with Connect Care.
