Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Engineer to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Power Engineer, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of computerized building automated systems, including HVAC systems, emergency power systems, and other utilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain computerized building automated systems, including HVAC systems, emergency power systems, and other utilities.
  • Analyze, revise, and modify existing applications of computer programs to achieve desired results.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on computerized building automated systems, including testing, calibrating, and replacing parts as required.
  • Respond to service and emergency calls related to computerized building automated systems, perform repairs and adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor information provided by computerized building automation systems to ensure HVAC systems and other equipment are functioning correctly.
  • Respond to and remedy abnormalities by operating the computer and/or adjusting instrumentation as required.
  • Operate steam and heating boilers/air conditioning systems by starting up and shutting down boilers and related pumps, fans, air compressors, and chillers.
  • Monitor and adjust temperature control systems, pressure, and feed water levels.
  • Record meter and gauge readings to ensure distribution of steam/air heating to designated areas.
  • Follow a preventative maintenance program to maintain and service equipment associated with these systems, including repairing, calibrating, and replacing items such as steam traps, gaskets, seals, bearings, and filters.
  • Recommend repairs and purchases as required.
  • Monitor and adjust chemical treatment systems and analyze chemical formulae.
  • Inspect mechanical rooms and areas to ensure all equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
  • Record readings, abnormalities, and other pertinent information on appropriate log sheets.
  • Test and maintain auxiliary power generators and repair/adjust as required.
  • Perform analysis on boiler systems, including combustion analysis, water treatment analysis, and steam efficiency analysis.
  • Answer service and emergency calls, assess and perform repairs as necessary, and call in appropriate staff for skilled journey person work as required.
  • Follow a preventative maintenance program to inspect, service, or overhaul a variety of hospital equipment and machinery, including wheelchairs, beds, stretchers, sterilizers, floor polishers, suction units, and washer/sanitizers.
  • Recommend repair and purchase as required.
  • Assign work tasks to designated staff, when required, and provide related training and orientation as necessary.
Qualifications

Certificate of competency as a 3rd Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of B.C.

Four years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Ability to operate related equipment.
