Position Overview: The successful applicant will collaborate closely with our Vertex offices across Canada, taking charge of the technical execution of geotechnical initiatives nationwide.

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Manager of Pipeline and Linear Assets Integrity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant professional experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Proficiency in commercially available software such as Slope/W for slope stability analysis is essential.
  • Experience in project management is required.
  • Familiarity with tools such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite is necessary.
  • A valid class 5 driver's license is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise for pipeline and linear infrastructure geohazard projects, encompassing new construction, assessments, mitigations, and monitoring.
  • Projects may involve roads, pipelines, powerlines, telecommunication towers, and oilsands operations.
  • Interpret and utilize aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and LiDAR data for geohazard assessments.
  • Conduct engineering evaluations for slope instability, demonstrating an understanding of landslide susceptibility, risk assessments, soil characteristics, factor of safety, and slip surfaces.
  • Contribute to the development of recommendations for geotechnical instrumentation and geohazard monitoring.
  • Travel may be required for field site investigations.
  • Engage in technical report writing and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
  • While foundation assessment and design are not required, experience in these areas is considered a plus, with opportunities to participate in residential and commercial projects.

Work Environment: This position is based in our Sherwood Park office, with a hybrid work structure allowing for remote work. The role is permanent and full-time (40 hours per week). An iPhone or phone allowance is provided.
