JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
The Operational Technology Cybersecurity Architect will be a vital member of the Enterprise Architecture team within T-Net British Columbia. This role will involve providing strategic guidance and tactical decisions regarding essential solutions and technologies for the monitoring and control of physical devices, which are increasingly integral to automating energy system operations. These foundational technologies (Industrial Control Systems) are crucial for delivering essential services across the organization.
The Architect will specialize in processes and tools that bridge information and operational technologies, guiding the delivery of practical, cohesive, and efficiently designed solutions. This position requires expertise in the cybersecurity dimensions of Industrial Control Systems and their integration with IT frameworks. The Architect will collaborate with key business and technology stakeholders to develop security strategies, roadmaps, plans, reference architectures, and solution designs that inform technology investments and ensure the delivery of secure, high-quality solutions.
This role also includes leading and mentoring solution architects, subject matter experts, and delivery teams involved in various projects to ensure effective execution of business objectives and adherence to technology standards.
Key Duties
- Develop architectural visions, roadmaps, reference architectures, standards, and guidelines for OT cybersecurity to support operational planning and delivery.
- Act independently as the program or project architect for high-risk and complex initiatives, ensuring standardization and consistency in architectural elements.
- Provide cybersecurity advice and direction during OT projects.
- Identify risks and opportunities to enhance the return on OT cybersecurity investments through optimized architectures and prudent technology choices.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across various functional areas to gather and evaluate solution requirements and constraints.
- Assess and recommend solutions related to physical devices, firmware, software, communication networks, cybersecurity, and back-office IT & OT systems.
- Work with planning, project, and operations teams to align solutions with business challenges.
- Offer leadership and mentorship to internal resources and partners.
- Collaborate effectively with a team of professionals to deliver results within tight timelines.
- Maintain professionalism to foster effective teamwork and productive relationships.
- Monitor developments in the OT threat landscape, as well as technology standards and best practices, ensuring they are adequately addressed in cybersecurity strategies and architectural artifacts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of operational technologies, cybersecurity frameworks, processes, and systems utilized in energy utilities, with proven experience in delivering architecture and designs as an enterprise or solution architect.
- Experience integrating security controls within OT architecture designs.
- In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles, frameworks, architectures, and designs, as well as enterprise architecture methods and standards.
- Ability to analyze and describe an organization's enterprise architecture.
- Experience in solution design and use case development considering OT priorities and constraints.
- Validate OT architectures for security best practices and provide recommendations to enhance security and mitigate risks.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity platforms and tools, including industry-standard solutions.
- Familiarity with operational and information technologies and systems relevant to energy utilities.
- Understanding of networking, telecommunications, and cybersecurity technologies.
- Knowledge of grid management solutions and cybersecurity architecture for cloud-based OT solutions.
- Awareness of emerging technology trends like OT-IT convergence and advanced analytics.
- Familiarity with compliance and cybersecurity standards applicable to the industry.
- Professional cybersecurity certifications are advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently.
