Job Summary:

The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of agricultural research equipment and vehicles. The successful candidate will work under minimal supervision and collaborate with faculty, staff, and external suppliers to ensure the smooth operation of the department's equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair agricultural research equipment, including tractors, seed drills, sprayers, and combines
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and tire rotations
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues with equipment
  • Inventory and manage consumables and spare parts
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement maintenance schedules
  • Provide training and guidance to junior staff members

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Journeyman's certificate as an Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Minimum 5 years of equivalent training and experience
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • WHMIS certification, CPR/First Aid, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods training
  • Basic knowledge of western Canadian farming practices and agricultural research techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with agricultural equipment maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of small engine repair and welding and fabrication basics
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-based collaborative environment
