About the Role
The Recreation Programmer will play a vital role in developing and implementing activity programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents. This position requires a collaborative and engaging team player who can work closely with residents, staff, and volunteers to create a positive and enriching experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with residents, staff, and volunteers to support the organizational culture and purpose.
- Design and implement recreation programs that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being, including outings, exercises, crafts, social events, and entertainment.
- Assist residents with transportation to and from programs as needed and provide support with daily activities.
- Monitor and document resident changes and report to supervisors and nurses as required.
- Maintain a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors by adhering to accident prevention protocols, emergency procedures, and infection control measures.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of resident information, confidentiality, and security.
- Participate in staff orientation, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Assist with statistical record-keeping using programs such as Activity Pro and Point Click Care.
- Support the orientation of new residents and encourage participation in community activities.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteers and assist with volunteer evaluation.
Qualifications and Skills
- Grade 12 Education
- Graduate from a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate program
- Previous experience in a senior-focused environment an asset
- Dementia course an asset
- Valid First Aid Level 1 Certificate
- Serving It Right Certificate
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset
- Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License a requirement
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills
