As a key member of the multidisciplinary team at Alberta Health Services, the Peer Support Worker - ARCH Program collaborates with healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care, practicing within a harm reduction philosophy. The team's goal is to provide holistic, evidence-based care to socially vulnerable patients and those dealing with problematic substance use.

Job Summary:

The Peer Support Worker will provide interventions and supports that complement the work of a multi-disciplinary outreach team. By sharing their own experiences of recovery and resilience, the Peer Support Worker will inspire hope in clients, offer mentorship and support, and advocate for client needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient-centered care, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team
  • Deliver interventions and supports that are complementary to the work of the multi-disciplinary outreach team
  • Share personal experiences of recovery and resilience to inspire hope in clients
  • Offer mentorship and support to clients
  • Advocate for client needs and support an integrated healthcare experience
Requirements:
  • Experience working with inner city/vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated experience working within a harm reduction framework
  • Demonstrated ability to support patients' transition to community resources
  • Lived experience with addiction
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as social work or addiction certification
  • Experience in a role supporting people with substance use disorder or mental health challenges
