Job Title: Educational Assistant II

We are seeking a qualified Educational Assistant II to join our team at Prairie South School Division No. 210. As an Educational Assistant II, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs and high behavioral needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide personal care assistance to students, including dressing, undressing, eating, toileting, personal hygiene, food preparation, and feeding.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including restraining students who have become violent towards staff or students, under extreme circumstances.
  • Perform non-invasive para-medical functions, such as stoma care, seizure care, and in-lying catheterization care, under the direction of parents, guardians, and medical personnel.
  • Utilize adaptive technology, adaptive devices, and augmentative communication devices under the direction of a Speech Language Pathologist or other professional staff.
  • Attend to the physiotherapeutic needs of students, including using walkers, three-wheel bicycles, standing frames, and roll seats.
  • Use wheelchair mobility management programs, as outlined by Occupational Therapists.
  • Assist and supervise life skills activities within the school setting, including cook programs.
  • Possess the ability to handle physically challenging tasks.
  • May be required to use a personal vehicle to transport students.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of a Grade 12 diploma from a recognized educational institution or General Educational Development (GED).
  • A minimum of one year of post-secondary training related to student needs, such as Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Development, Youth Worker, or Rehabilitation Worker.
  • NVCI and TLR training, if required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in providing direct personal care.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license.
Physical Requirements:

The ability to perform heavy work is required in some assignments, including exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to lift students and/or move objects.

Wage and Benefits:

In accordance with the current CUPE Local 5512 Collective Bargaining Agreement, the hourly wage range is $22.16 to $27.28.
