About the Role:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Underwriting Assistant to join our team at Aviva. As an Underwriting Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our underwriting teams by providing administrative support, handling data entry, and facilitating communication between broker partners and underwriting teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to underwriters on all lines of business, including handling data entry, billing, and cancellation tasks.
  • Handle front-line phone communication between broker partners and underwriting teams, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of queries.
  • Process loss control reports and other assigned duties, maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Perform quality control to meet the accuracy and underwriting requirements on business processing, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Support underwriting managers and teams as required, including facilitating underwriting abeyances and providing administrative assistance.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and documentation standards to support underwriters, driving process improvements.
  • Assist with mailing policy documents and registered letters in the office, maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Process policies and documentation in a timely manner and within authority, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with assignment of underwriting tasks, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience required.
  • Completion of a related educational, diploma/degree/accreditation, or relevant work experience.
  • 2+ years of related experience in administrative and/or support functions, preferably in the insurance industry.
  • Insurance background ideal, with a strong understanding of underwriting principles and practices.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Mindful of making deadlines, results-oriented, and vested in learning and building a career in the general insurance space.
  • Ability to multitask, with a quick study/learning curve and excellent technical aptitude with web-based and in-house systems and databases.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt in a dynamic priority-changing environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.
  • Confident and comfortable managing a healthy level of autonomy, with a strong ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations.
  • Effective in a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and accountability, with a person who encourages cooperation across the organization.
