Job Summary
The Staff Pharmacist is a key member of the Prairie Mountain Health team, responsible for providing direct pharmacy services to assigned sites. This role involves planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating pharmacy services both site-specific and regionally, in consultation with the regional pharmacy team.
Key Responsibilities
- Drug Distribution and Management
- Ensure the accurate and efficient distribution of medications, including non-sterile and sterile compounding, within various drug distribution models.
- Oversee the management of controlled drugs and substances, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Medication Order Review and Verification
- Triaging orders to verify authenticity, completeness, and appropriateness, including dosage, route, frequency, incompatibilities, interactions, duplications, allergies, formulary compliance, automatic therapeutic substitution, and automatic stop.
- Professional Practice and Education
- Provide drug information to patients and healthcare professionals, including educational programs, drug utilization reviews, and literature evaluation.
- Participate in education programs for external associations and programs, promoting best practices in pharmacy services.
- Clinical Pharmacy Services and Patient Care
- Monitor the clinical status and drug therapies of patients to determine appropriate clinical drug interventions for identified or anticipated medication-related problems.
- Counsel patients on medication usage, participate in unit conferences and family conferences as required, and provide guidance on medication management.
- Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise and provide direction to pharmacy assistants, students, and interns, verifying the accuracy of tasks performed by them.
- Collaborate with the Director of Pharmacy/Manager of Pharmacy in formulating, implementing, and revising policies, procedures, manuals, and documents relating to the operation of Pharmacy Services.
- Special Projects and Regional Initiatives
- Participate in study protocols as required, contributing to the advancement of pharmacy services and patient care.
- Collaborate with the Director/Manager of Pharmacy Services on special projects concerning pharmacy operations and regional initiatives.
- Expanded Scope of Practice and Sundry Duties
- Perform expanded scope of practice activities as required and supported by PMH policy, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Undertake sundry duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of Prairie Mountain Health.
