Unit Overview:
The 3A Comprehensive Stroke Unit is a specialized facility providing both acute and rehabilitative care for stroke patients. Our team is dedicated to delivering critical interventions such as TPA and EVT (mechanical clot retrieval) for individuals affected by strokes. The unit comprises 52 beds, including 32 for acute care and 20 for rehabilitation.
Our interdisciplinary team includes Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Charge Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Dieticians, and Neurologists, all working collaboratively to provide exceptional, patient-centered care. We engage in ongoing research and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring our staff remains at the forefront of professional development.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid general registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Preferred 1 to 3 years of recent experience in Stroke/Neuro and Rehabilitation Nursing.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Experience in acute care settings.
- Familiarity with complex medical and cardiac conditions is advantageous.
- Commitment to continuous professional education in Neuroscience nursing is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
- Critical thinking and leadership capabilities.
- A reliable, adaptable, and innovative professional, capable of working effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the provision and management of nursing care for patients.
- Conduct nursing assessments and contribute to the development of care plans, implementing goal-oriented treatment interventions.
- Provide education and support to patients and families, addressing medical, cognitive, emotional, and self-care needs.
- Assist in creating realistic discharge plans.
- Act as a mentor and consultant, utilizing critical thinking skills to enhance patient outcomes and team dynamics.
- Engage in program planning, continuous quality improvement, and evaluation initiatives.
