Material Handling Specialist

As a key member of the Materials team, the Material Handling Specialist reports directly to the Materials Manager. This role is essential for the efficient receipt of goods and the dispatch of finished products. All tasks must be executed in a safe manner, adhering to Johnson Electric's Health & Safety protocols, procedures, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize shipping reports, shipping lists, and instructions from the shipping coordinator to prepare outgoing shipments.
- Conduct secondary operations such as tumbling, oil impregnation, steam treatment, and packaging.
- Safely transport properly labeled materials between processes and store them in designated areas.
- Communicate effectively with operators to ensure a steady supply of materials for secondary operations.
- Manage the shipping, receiving, movement, and storage of materials between Stackpole International and various suppliers, processors, customers, and internal departments.
- Collect and dispose of scrap materials, including bins, floor sweepings, and scrap powder.
- Prepare load sheets and load trucks for outgoing shipments.
- Generate necessary shipping documents, sign out loads, distribute paperwork, and create/send Advanced Shipping Notices (ASNs).
- Ensure timely follow-up on ASN transmissions within one hour of shipment.
- Receive and inspect incoming goods for quantity and damage, stamping packing slips as needed and forwarding them to the shipping coordinator.
- Weigh, label, and package outgoing products according to process sheets and packaging guidelines.
- Complete traceability tags for products returned to the quality department.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including the yard and storage areas.
- Conduct daily maintenance checks on lift trucks.
- Provide support in the processing of parts in the secondary area during staff absences or as directed by the supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System and Environmental Health and Safety Systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to write legibly for product description tags and assist in inventory counts.
- Physical fitness to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and proper forklift operation.
- Previous experience operating a forklift is advantageous.
- Valid lift truck license.
