Astellas Pharma Canada is currently seeking a Clinical Science Liaison, reporting to the Associate Director of Medical Science Liaisons. The ideal candidate should ideally be located in British Columbia or Alberta.

Role Overview

The Clinical Science Liaison (CSL) acts as the field-based scientific authority, responsible for facilitating non-promotional scientific discussions and translating complex scientific concepts into actionable insights that align with Astellas' strategic objectives. The CSL will implement region-specific medical and scientific strategies that support the needs of Astellas for both existing and developing therapeutic products.

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Develop and execute a Stakeholder Engagement Plan that meets the medical needs of stakeholders while aligning with the Therapeutic Area (TA) Medical Affairs strategy.
  • Establish and nurture trusted relationships with medical professionals to deliver timely, non-promotional scientific value aimed at enhancing patient care.
  • Represent Astellas Medical Affairs at relevant health technology assessment (HTA) and payer meetings, coordinating necessary resources and clinical insights to foster collaboration.
  • Analyze the medical and healthcare landscape to implement a regional plan addressing scientific and health economics gaps, in collaboration with the MSL leadership team.

Research Support:

  • Collaborate with Research Operations to assess research capabilities within the assigned region.
  • Identify potential investigators for upcoming research initiatives based on established criteria.
  • Lead regional profiling efforts and communicate insights effectively.
  • Provide therapeutic area expertise during site initiation visits and throughout research studies.
  • Support Investigator Sponsored Research requests as necessary.

Medical Plan Contributions:

  • Interpret and communicate stakeholder insights from field interactions to shape the medical strategy.
  • Identify and support participation in scientific meetings at various levels, gathering insights from sessions and stakeholders.
  • Assist in organizing regional expert meetings, HTA and payer meetings, and internal training sessions.
  • Contribute to the development of content for strategic MSL initiatives.
  • Act as a medical liaison with provincial HTA and payer stakeholders to ensure their perspectives are integrated into strategic planning.
  • Demonstrate best practices to enhance MSL regional operations.

Scientific Exchange:

  • Present scientific data to various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and formulary committees.
  • Discuss approved scientific information regarding Astellas products and disease management as appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities for regional Medical Education events that align with the Medical Affairs TA strategy.
  • Recognize gaps in non-promotional medical materials and lead the development of content to address these needs.

Governance and Compliance:

  • Maintain advanced scientific knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas and Astellas products.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to support business needs.
  • Stay informed about Astellas Medical Governance, global and local SOPs, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure all activities comply with medical governance standards and the corporate code of ethics.
