The Engineering department at the City of Abbotsford is actively seeking a skilled professional to join their vibrant team as a full-time Civil Engineering Permits Specialist.

In this dynamic technical position, you will be tasked with evaluating and confirming the completeness of Engineering Permit submissions. Your role will cover a variety of applications, including excavation, reclamation, grading, drainage, erosion & sediment control, civil plans for soil removal or deposit applications, highway use, and excavation, among others. A comprehensive understanding of soil removal and deposit regulations, along with a solid grasp of civil construction methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment, is crucial.

Your duties will include ensuring the inclusion of essential documents such as letters of credit, inter-governmental approvals, and consultant reports. Furthermore, you will provide regular updates to the manager regarding permit activities.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential as you will be offering guidance and information to developers, property owners, architects, engineers, and contractors concerning permit submission requirements and addressing inquiries related to design, bylaw interpretation, permit processes, and associated costs.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Grade 12 diploma;
  • A Diploma of Technology in Civil Engineering;
  • A minimum of four years of experience in the municipal or provincial engineering sector, including civil construction and inspection experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • A valid BC Driver's Licence;
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Applied Science and Technologists and Technicians of BC as an Applied Science Technologist (AscT).

This position is unionized under CUPE Local 774, with an hourly wage ranging from $42.71 to $50.22.
