Brock University is seeking a highly skilled Academic Advisor/Communications Coordinator to join our team in the Department of Geography and Tourism Studies. As a key member of our administrative team, you will provide exceptional academic advising and communications support to our students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality academic advising to undergraduate students in the assigned programs, including transfer, international, and exchange students.
- Monitor academic progress and provide guidance on course selection, program requirements, and university regulations.
- Coordinate LOP applications, transfer credits, and degree audits, ensuring seamless student experiences.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, organizations, and Geography and Tourism alumni.
- Design and produce publications, marketing collateral, and promotional materials to showcase our department's research, teaching, and community engagement.
- Represent assigned programs and/or Faculty at student recruitment events, promoting the value of university education and our department's unique offerings.
- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline, such as Geography, Tourism Studies, or Environmental Studies/Science.
- Knowledge of a university environment, academic advising models, and counselling theories.
- Understanding of university regulations, policies, and systems, including course calendars, prerequisites, and class scheduling.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate students.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Undergraduate degree in Geography, Tourism, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of social media and website management, with experience developing and executing events.
