The Mechanical Maintenance Coordinator will report directly to the Chief Planner and will be tasked with the development, implementation, and oversight of mechanical maintenance strategies and project schedules. This role will involve integrating fixed asset strategies and refining planning processes to elevate service quality, data precision, efficiency, and safety in the workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1: Maintenance Planning

  • Create comprehensive mechanical maintenance plans.
  • Schedule and release work orders, including task lists, standard operating procedures, resource allocation, materials, tools, equipment, costs, preliminary work, and scheduling dates.
  • Develop detailed work packages that outline task conditions, constraints, hazard controls, required permits, labor, equipment, materials, specialized tools, services, testing, handover procedures, durations, sequencing, and timing.
  • Contribute to shutdown project work packages by accurately identifying shutdown scopes and coordinating critical schedule milestones.
  • Maintain a robust maintenance backlog, ensuring two to four weeks of ready-to-schedule jobs.
  • Document maintenance activities and ensure accurate data capture from completed work packages using the company's CMMS.
  • Address planning challenges related to operational needs, parts availability, equipment issues, and data integrity.
  • Update preventive maintenance requirements based on supervisor and crew feedback, as well as data from completed work orders.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance work package requirements while minimizing costs without compromising safety or quality.
  • Conduct worksite inspections and safe work observations; lead investigations as necessary.
  • Facilitate fixed plant maintenance planning meetings to prioritize maintenance tasks.

Area 2: Operational Excellence

  • Adhere to IAMGOLD's asset management processes and quality standards.
  • Follow all safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Propose innovative approaches to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Proactively identify inefficiencies and implement operational improvements within the maintenance planning department.
  • Assist in the development and revision of policies and procedures for the maintenance planning and scheduling department.
  • Commit to continuous learning and skill enhancement as a Maintenance Planner.
  • Collaborate effectively to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Evaluate risks across key dimensions: throughput, time, quality, sustainability, and cost.
  • Review performance metrics against maintenance plans and report any discrepancies.
  • Adjust non-conformances to align with plan and KPI targets, developing corrective actions as needed.
  • Participate in the budgeting process using a zero-based approach.
  • Prepare forecasts for future maintenance activities on a regular basis.
  • Ensure maintenance records and bills of materials are accurate and up-to-date.

Area 3: Collaborative Execution

  • Coordinate with reliability personnel to develop maintenance strategies for critical equipment.
  • Work with technical departments to minimize production and maintenance delays.
  • Facilitate communication between production, maintenance, technical services, and operations teams.
  • Understand production schedules and collaborate with supervisors and engineers on maintenance activities.
  • Support the negotiation of maintenance contracts and services.
  • Engage with maintenance teams to share insights and solutions.
  • Ensure timely feedback is communicated among maintenance trades, engineers, and supervisors.
  • Assist in managing outsourced maintenance requests.
  • Participate in weekly scheduling meetings across disciplines.
  • Coordinate with supply chain partners to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Support the implementation of maintenance systems during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Communicate effectively using available tools.
  • Address any deficiencies with the appropriate team members.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary teams to uphold our commitments to our stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.

Experience

  • 0 to 3 years of experience in processing plant maintenance or asset management.
  • Experience in maintenance routines, mechanical, welding, or electrical fields is advantageous.
  • A strong desire to learn about maintenance planning and scheduling best practices.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exercise judgment within defined practices and policies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and empower teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Self-motivated with a focus on continuous improvement.
