Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Operations Analyst to join our team at TMX Group. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing, analyzing, and monitoring corporate action events, ensuring timely and accurate payment to participant accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage all corporate action events, including entitlement and mandatory corporate reorganization events.
  • Timely submission of securities to transfer agents, paying agents, and/or DTC, and receipt of proceeds in a timely manner.
  • Liaise and interact with participants, depositary/transfer agents, issuers, lawyers, underwriters, and paying agents to maintain effective coordination of the submission and payment processes.
  • Analyze all information applicable to the processing of mandatory corporate event files.
  • Effectively manage and administer all ongoing mandatory corporate action/reorganization files, ensuring all submission, payment dates, and letters of transmittal are identified.
  • Review bulletin, event, submission dates, and pay dates, DBRD, and letters of transmittal to ensure all information is understood and critical dates are diarized for action.
  • Coordinate timely delivery and balancing of securities and the receipt of funds with the depositary and paying agent on all corporate reorganization events.
  • Submit letters of transmittal/instructions and securities to transfer agents in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of the terms of the mandatory corporate event.
  • Follow up with transfer agents, depository agents, paying agents, DTCC, and issuers as deemed necessary to confirm/verify details of payment.
  • Verify and balance payment prior to requesting release of the payment to participants in the CDSX system.
  • Adhere to strict and aggressive unit deadlines for turnaround of related information.
  • Interact with issuers, transfer and paying agents, securities regulators, underwriters, dealers, investment managers, US depository, corporate legal counsel, and other sources to confirm and/or clarify any legal or processing requirements.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Strict adherence to TMX procedures, audit requirements, and internal control verification process.
  • Quick and decisive resolution of problems and discrepancies that may negatively impact SIES operations and the timely documentation and escalation of these complex/critical issues.
  • Recommend changes to existing processes, services, and procedures to ensure we are meeting our customers' needs and operating in an efficient and effective environment.
  • Provide training, support, and guidance to new recruits and other operation analyst team members.
  • Perform any additional functions that may be assigned from time to time to maintain effective coordination and management within the unit.
  • Check, prepare, and submit daily reports in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in commerce or business administration preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive operational/business experience in the securities financial industry.
  • Years of experience in reorganizations/corporate action and entitlement processing functions preferred.
  • A good understanding of security entitlement and settlement procedures, and the Canadian and US depository operations is highly recommended.
  • Canadian securities course is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize in order to meet strict deadlines in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Must enjoy working in a fast, varied, and stressful environment.
  • Must be able to complete assignments within specific time schedules.
  • Excellent analytical/accounting skills in order to accurately calculate and determine complex security features.
  • Able to work collectively within a team environment to maintain customer focus and achieve desired business results.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Able to gather information through the questioning of others, review of documentation, and observation of situations.
  • Must be able to select the most appropriate course of action and take the initiative to achieve objectives and/or resolve problems promptly, without defense, and while exercising good judgment.
