Position Overview: The Pathology Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the pathology department under the guidance of the Pathology Coordinator. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities including specimen handling, autopsy assistance, and other laboratory tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct histology procedures, ensuring proper maintenance of tissue processors and compliance with chemical recycling protocols.
  • Assist Pathologists during autopsies, providing necessary support and adhering to established procedures.
  • Perform pre-analytical tasks across various disciplines, such as setting up ESR tests, centrifugation, and executing quality control measures.
  • Manage inventory and supplies, ensuring equipment is well-maintained and analyzers are loaded appropriately.
  • Handle specimen receipt and processing, including accessioning and preparing samples for analysis.
  • Execute phlebotomy tasks as required.
  • Adhere to safety protocols as outlined in the laboratory safety manual, ensuring personal and team safety.
  • Work collaboratively with regulated health professionals, including Medical Laboratory Technologists and Pathologists, while following documented procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician from recognized associations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
  • Willingness to work various shifts under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
