Job Summary:

SMS Equipment Inc. is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician/Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete overhauls on heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, repairs, and replacements of parts to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Diagnostic and Repair: Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
  • Technical Expertise: Make recommendations regarding extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement.
  • Communication: Interpret work order and technical manuals, complete job-specific reports and paperwork as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety, motivated and able to work in a challenging environment with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

  • Certification: Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification.
  • Experience: Strong commitment to safety, experience in repair/maintenance of heavy equipment, strong written and verbal communication.
  • Additional Requirements: Some positions may require the ability to travel and meet customer site requirements, experience with Komatsu equipment is considered an asset, Interprovincial Red Seal is considered an asset, valid Class 5/G drivers license.

Working Conditions:

  • Work Environment: Regularly work at our customers' location.
  • Physical Demands: Job tasks may be physically demanding, lifting up to 50 lbs, confined space work is required.
