Position Summary

The User Terminal Program Manager will join the existing User Terminal development team, collaborating with external technology vendors to provide user terminal solutions for Telesat. Reporting to the Director of User Terminal Program Management, this role requires a seasoned program manager with a solid background in satellite user terminal technology development, manufacturing, delivery, and installation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning and execution of multiple vendor programs, managing scope, schedule, milestones, risks, opportunities, and budget.
  • Manage user terminal programs, including flat panel antennas, and report on their progress.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of both internal and external vendor developments, identifying risks and challenges for the overall Lightspeed program.
  • Collaborate closely with product, program, engineering, and commercial teams to understand user terminal requirements and ensure timely and budget-compliant vendor deliveries.
  • Work with Telesat's engineering, legal, and contracts teams to prepare partnership, development, and supply agreements with selected vendors.
  • Develop and execute program initiatives for the Telesat Lightspeed constellation in coordination with commercial and services teams.
  • Create necessary documentation for effective management and execution of user terminal programs in collaboration with engineering experts.
  • Assess vendor development progress and prepare program inputs for presentations to Lightspeed leadership.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop cost-effective designs that meet production cost targets for user terminals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, focusing on communication systems or satellite terminals.
  • A minimum of 6 years of program management experience in a STEM field, with at least 2 years in the satellite communications sector.
  • A Master's degree or MBA is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience managing multiple concurrent and interdependent projects.
  • Proficient in project management tools such as Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software.
  • General knowledge of modem, RF, electronics, and antenna technologies.
  • Experience addressing business considerations and practical limitations in system design and implementation.
  • Experience working with external vendors, including design and manufacturing facilities.
  • Ability to prioritize opportunities, needs, and resources effectively.
  • PMP Certification is a plus.
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral.

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in an office environment.
  • Full-time office or hybrid work arrangement, subject to business needs.
