Water Meter Installer Job Description

The City of Barrie is seeking a skilled Water Meter Installer to join our Water Operations Branch. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate operation of water meters and advanced metering infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Locate, inspect, clean, repair, test, maintain, and calibrate water meters and water meter-related equipment
  • Install and inspect residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional water meters and remote reading equipment
  • Troubleshoot and correct remote reading equipment and minor plumbing issues related to water metering
  • Inspect new or repaired water services for compliance with City standards
  • Inspect for and report on any broken/damaged water meters, suspected or proven tampering or unauthorized use of water, hazards to the public drinking water system, and non-compliance with multiple City by-laws
Requirements:
  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technician, Environmental Technician, or related discipline
  • Two (2) years of experience performing duties related to water meter installation, maintenance, and repair
  • General knowledge of legislation, regulations, and requirements related to water treatment and distribution systems
  • Working knowledge of displacement type-cold water meters and municipal water systems
  • Intermediate skills in analytical problem-solving, time management, and interpersonal communication
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence in good standing
  • Medical documentation to confirm medically fit to wear a respirator
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
