Role Overview
The role of the psychologist is crucial in the prevention, identification, assessment, and support of students with disabilities or those facing social or academic challenges. The objective is to assist these students in their educational journey and promote their personal and social growth.
Key Responsibilities
The psychologist is involved in the establishment and execution of psychological services while adhering to educational and administrative guidelines at both the school and district levels.
Engage in the identification and acknowledgment of students facing challenges, emphasizing prevention and intervention; design and perform psychological evaluations to clarify the student's functioning profile and requirements; utilize established standardized psychometric instruments; conduct necessary interviews and observations; analyze and interpret the gathered data and observations.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to formulate and update student intervention plans, incorporating their action strategies as needed; assist in determining intervention goals and methods; work alongside other team members in planning, coordinating interventions, and assessing the achievement of objectives.
Support educators in understanding the nature of challenges, offering guidance and assistance in their instructional methods; propose or implement strategies to improve conditions for student success; plan, organize, and lead training sessions.
Provide interventions for students, groups, or parents; aid in recognizing difficulties, facilitate the exploration of solutions, and suggest resources when necessary.
Advise administrative personnel, prepare expert reports, evaluations, summaries, and progress reports, making suitable recommendations to aid in decision-making.
Support and guide school staff regarding the integration of students into mainstream classrooms and recommend intervention strategies or activities tailored to the specific needs of the student or group.
May intervene in crisis or emergency situations to help de-escalate and propose solutions.
Establish and maintain relationships with representatives from partner organizations, health and social services networks, and educational boards.
Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards and guidelines set by the educational board; document progress notes or evaluation reports at various stages, concluding reports, and follow-up assessments on interventions.
