Job Overview:

The role of an educational psychologist encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing the educational experience of students facing adaptation challenges. This includes prevention, assessment, support, and evaluation of students' adaptive capabilities, as well as the formulation and execution of tailored educational intervention plans. The ultimate goal is to foster an environment conducive to optimal student adaptation, recovery, and the development of their autonomy in relation to their surroundings. Additionally, this position involves providing guidance and support to both school personnel and parents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the establishment and execution of the educational psychology service while adhering to both educational and administrative guidelines.
  • Engage in the identification and screening of students experiencing difficulties, emphasizing prevention and timely intervention.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of students' adaptation challenges and capabilities, particularly for those with disabilities or confirmed mental health disorders, to accurately define their functional profiles and psychosocial needs.
  • Gather pertinent information from educational staff, external professionals, and parents, utilizing appropriate assessment tools and methodologies to develop a comprehensive intervention plan.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and refine intervention strategies, ensuring alignment with the students' needs and goals.
  • Work alongside educators to devise and implement strategies aimed at assisting students facing adaptation difficulties.
  • Provide expert advice and support to school staff and parents, recommending effective intervention strategies and approaches to foster positive social behaviors and adaptive skills.
  • Organize and facilitate group activities for students experiencing similar challenges or issues.
  • Design and modify educational materials tailored to the specific needs and abilities of students facing adaptation challenges.
  • Offer insights and recommendations to management, preparing reports and documentation to aid in decision-making processes.
  • Support school staff in the integration of students into mainstream classes, suggesting suitable intervention methods based on individual circumstances.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with partner organizations and communicate effectively with other professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Intervene in crisis situations as necessary, proposing effective solutions to mitigate challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards and institutional guidelines, including progress notes and evaluation reports.

Required Qualifications: Must be a member of the Order of Educational Psychologists of Quebec.
