Position Overview

Based in our Calgary office, the Financial Accountant for Heartland Finance will report directly to the Revenue Supervisor. This role involves working alongside the Senior Accountant to manage the accounting, analysis, and reporting associated with Heartland's long-term sales agreements and the development of the Commercial Allocation Model.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the commercial allocation process for product, inventory, and revenue of polypropylene to propane suppliers, ensuring alignment with the propane agreements.
  • Review both existing and new propane supply contracts to update essential master data in the allocation model and product reconciliations.
  • Collaborate closely with the commercial team to guarantee the accuracy and completeness of allocations in accordance with each propane supply agreement.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting deadlines, working in tandem with accounting to ensure that volumetric information provided aligns with third-party invoicing and financial reporting requirements.
  • Engage with volumetric accounting to comprehend the flows and measurement points for inputs to the allocation model.
  • Participate in various internal and external audits by providing and clarifying data, procedures, and reporting.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with SOX regulations, reviewing and supporting changes in quarterly and annual controls.
  • Prepare journal entries to document financial transactions related to revenue and long-term sales contracts, ensuring compliance with IFRS standards.
  • Conduct month-end closing activities, including account analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyze month-end revenue, reconcile revenue with customer contracts, and prepare variance analysis to ensure completeness.
  • Responsibilities may be adjusted as needed within the Heartland accounting team to meet business requirements.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation or in progress, with 2-3 years of industry experience or auditing experience at an accounting firm.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication abilities, capable of managing multiple internal and external relationships.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to set and achieve challenging deadlines while working independently in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
Work Schedule

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday.
