Position Overview

The Financial Accountant for Heartland Finance will be an integral part of the team, reporting directly to the Revenue Supervisor. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Accountant to manage accounting tasks, analytical functions, and reporting duties related to long-term sales agreements and the preparation of the Commercial Allocation Model.
Heartland Polymers is committed to utilizing the abundant local propane resources in Western Canada to manufacture polypropylene (PP), a valuable and recyclable plastic used by global manufacturers for various everyday products. Our unique Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) is strategically located in Central Alberta and features North America's only integrated propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and PP production facilities, along with a co-generation utilities block. We are dedicated to producing high-quality products while innovating to minimize waste and enhance recycling efforts. With a production capacity of 525,000 tonnes of polypropylene annually, our facility ensures reliable delivery of products across North America and beyond through an advanced rail loading system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the commercial allocation process for product, inventory, and revenue of polypropylene, ensuring alignment with propane supplier agreements.
  • Review and update master data for existing and new propane supply contracts to maintain accuracy in the allocation model and product reconciliations.
  • Work collaboratively with the commercial team to ensure the precision and completeness of allocations as per each propane supply agreement.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting deadlines, coordinating closely with accounting to ensure volumetric data supports third-party invoicing and financial reporting requirements.
  • Engage with volumetric accounting to comprehend the flow and measurement points critical to the allocation model.
  • Participate in internal and external audits by providing and clarifying data, procedures, and reports.
  • Assist in maintaining SOX compliance and support adjustments in quarterly and annual controls.
  • Prepare journal entries to accurately record financial transactions related to revenue and long-term sales contracts, ensuring compliance with IFRS standards.
  • Conduct month-end closing activities, including account analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyze month-end revenue, reconcile figures with customer contracts, and prepare variance analysis to ensure completeness.
  • Adapt responsibilities as necessary within the Heartland accounting team to meet evolving business needs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • CPA designation or in progress, with 2-3 years of relevant industry or auditing experience.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities, capable of managing multiple internal and external relationships.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to set and achieve challenging deadlines while working independently in a dynamic, growth-focused environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.

Work Environment
