Telecommunications Central Office Specialist

Meridia Recruitment Solutions is collaborating with a leading telecommunications provider in their search for a Telecommunications Central Office Specialist. This organization is dedicated to delivering high-quality telephone, cable television, and internet services across the region.

In this role, you will take charge of managing all central office and select remote office telecommunications systems, including DWDM transport systems, routers, switches, and microwave technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair central office systems and equipment.
  • Conduct acceptance testing and manage the activation and deactivation of new central office devices.
  • Oversee the organization of racks, wiring, and cabling in central office and telecommunication rooms.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain the heating, cooling, and power systems of the central office.
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment issues promptly, recommending improvements as necessary.
  • Ensure that upgrades and modifications are executed with minimal disruption to services.
  • Gather data to prepare traffic studies and regulatory reports.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all installations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of telecommunications, transport, and digital switching technologies.
  • Familiarity with central office equipment and its operations.
  • Proficient knowledge of telephony and electrical systems.
  • Experience with BTI or Fujitsu transport equipment.
  • Expertise in digital telecommunications and fiber optic technologies.
  • Knowledge of company products, services, policies, and industry regulations.
  • Proficient in fiber optic network maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Skilled in DWDM technology, timing, and synchronization.
  • Competent in optical Ethernet and TDM systems.
  • Experienced in microwave radio technologies.
  • Proficient in the installation and maintenance of various circuit types.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledgeable in AC/DC power maintenance and related systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for professional interactions.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents such as schematics and blueprints.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Capable of evaluating and repairing complex equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed technical decisions.
  • Experience in fostering a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in central office operations or computer engineering.
  • Background in networking (IP) or telecommunications.
  • Relevant IT certifications preferred (e.g., A+, Network+, Security+, JNCIA-Junos, CCNA).
  • Certification as an electrician is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to see and interpret service orders and reports.
  • Must be able to hear effectively for communication.
  • Capability to move around the work site as needed.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and crawl for installation tasks.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
  • Proficient in using hands for writing, typing, and operating equipment.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
